Keeping a Nature Journal/Field Sketching with Environmental Educator Barbara Bald

Wednesday, July 19th
12:30-2:00 p.m. at 236 Huntress Bridge Road, Effingham

(For ages 10 to adult)

Want a different way to experience the natural world? Sketching something actually helps you see it through a different lens. Join us as we explore ways to set up a Natural Journal and learn new ways to do easy sketches of what you are seeing. No drawing experience is necessary.

Materials needed: A sketch pad or journal, drawing pencil (4B if you have one), eraser, colored pencils (if you have them), gel pen. If none of these are available, not to worry. Just bring a regular pencil. You can always craft a homemade journal. Just in case, we will have some extra homemade journals here.

Barbara Bald taught science to sixth-grade students in Gilford for 22 years, has worked with GMCG conducting macroinvertebrate sampling, and helped facilitate the Sense of Place program for second graders in schools in Maine. Bald has been tracking animals for 20 years. She took tracking classes with Paul Rezendes and his senior trackers, along with members of the Appalachian Mountain Club and staff of the White Pines program in Maine.
