Planned Giving

Giving water to the roots…the seeds we have sown need plenty of it!

GMCG intends to be around long into the future. We plan to be here when your children and
grandchildren and their children are living here, working here, hiking, swimming, birdwatching,
kayaking, and fishing here in clean, healthy waters. That is the simple truth of
environmentalism – we toil at this work, we volunteer and give what we can – because we
know that if we do not, those who follow us may not enjoy what we had. There may even be
ways to restore some of these resources to something even better than we knew. Planned
giving is a way to think down the road – to help GMCG in a way you cannot help today, and to
be a part of the future of safeguarding the Ossipee Watershed. Here is a list of some of the
most common ways to incorporate charitable giving into your estate plan.

Bequest
A transfer of property or cash to GMCG delineated in your will.

Charitable Lead Trust
When you name GMCG as a beneficiary of a Charitable Lead Trust, the trust pays income to
GMCG for a specific term of years or over your lifetime. Depending on your choice, the trust
assets are either passed back to you or to your designated beneficiaries.

IRA Rollover
Also referred to as a QCD: qualified charitable distribution. This allows you at age 70½ or older
to make tax-free IRA charitable rollover gifts of up to $105,000 per year directly from your
Individual Retirement Accounts to eligible nonprofits. The funds must be transferred directly to
GMCG; withdrawing them first will result in a tax penalty.

Life Insurance
You can designate GMCG as a policy beneficiary. This allows you to provide a significant gift to
protect the Ossipee Watershed in a way that could be difficult to do through an outright
donation. Your heirs benefit as well, because policy proceeds distributed to GMCG are exempt
from estate tax.

Real Estate
You can gift real estate to GMCG, removing a large taxable asset from your estate and
benefiting by receiving an income tax deduction equal to the appraised fair market value of the
property, with no capital gains tax due on the transfer. In the case of GMCG, if the property
meets our criteria for conservation land, we will hold onto it and protect. If it is not
conservation land, we will likely sell the property and use the proceeds to acquire conservation
land, support our programs, or both!

Retirement plans
You can name GMCG as the beneficiary of a portion or all of your IRA, 401(k), or other
Retirement Plans. When your estate is settled, the amount designated passes to GMCG and
your heirs avoid income and estate taxes.

Please consult your attorney and/or financial advisor for guidance on these and other possible
ways to leave a legacy to GMCG. Thank you.
