Matt joined us in December 2019. He brings over 30 years of nonprofit management experience and a lifelong devotion to the outdoors and environmental protection. For much of his professional career Matt led efforts in Maine and nationally to expand choice for working people when they “give at the office,” thereby building new avenues for environmental and social justice organization to raise awareness while raising money.
He graduated from Bowdoin College and received his M.A. in Public Policy from Tufts University. An avid angler, he learned to fish on Squam Lake and caught his first brook trout on Hall Pond in Sandwich Notch. His journey includes stints as a fly-fishing and river guide in Idaho, owner-operator of a sushi company, and a college chef. Matt lives just a watershed away in Casco, Maine and is the exceptionally proud dad of three daughters ages 17, 21 & 25.
Tara Schroeder worked as GMCG’s Program Director from 2003-2011, and was responsible for overseeing water quality monitoring, the educational programs, volunteer training, and all day-to-day aspects of growing the organization. She hired and worked with many dedicated interns, and with their help, brought such programs as VBAP, Trout in the Classroom and GET WET! to local schools. She has worked as a teacher, workshop leader, volunteer coordinator, and group outreach coordinator for the Appalachian Mountain Club, as a teacher for Nature’s Classroom, and as a trip leader and Camp Director at Camp Cody. Tara returned to GMCG as Education Coordinator in 2018, and has already expanded & developed place based nature programs at the Blue Heron House and in local high-schools. She holds a BA from Bowdoin College in Anthropology and Environmental Studies with a minor in Biology, and her MS in Environmental Education from Lesley University/Aubdubon Expedition Institute.
Jillian Emerson earned her B.S. in Microbiology/Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Quinnipiac University in 2008. After her degree completion she spent 10 years working in academic research in the Department of Molecular and Systems Biology (formerly Genetics) at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Most of her work was focused in the area of circadian rhythms using a model fungal organism, Neurospora crassa. In 2018, she earned her ASCP certification in molecular biology (MB, ASCP(CM)). She is currently the Water Quality Coordinator for Green Mountain Conservation Group in Effingham, NH. Most importantly, she loves dogs.
Moselle Spiller is an Effingham native who spent her childhood hiking in the White Mountains and ice skating on just about every pond and lake with her family. She graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts and majored in Industrial Design, and minored in Graphic Design. She was one of GMCG’s first Water Quality interns in 2003, and after more than a decade traveling the world, returned in 2018 as a dedicated staff member.
