In 2002, GMCG received a conservation easement on Mt. Katherine and surrounding forest land in Tamworth donated by the Wonalancet Nominee Trust. This 405-acre parcel includes frontage and fields on Route 113, views from the summit of Mt. Katherine and hiking trails long maintained by the Wonalancet OutDoor Club. It also protects important groundwater resources, and is also contiguous with other conservation land, thus enhancing wildlife habitat.
GMCG is pleased to announce the acceptance of this first conservation easement. In stewarding this land, shared goals include:
Continued public use of maintained hiking trails
Sustainable forest management
Wildlife habitat protection and corridor links to other conservation land
Aquifer protection
