Edible Wild Mushrooms talk October 4th

Armillaria mellea

On Thursday October 4th at 6pm join Green Mountain Conservation Group (GMCG) and the New Hampshire Mushroom Company at the Lyceum in Tamworth for a fungi –filled evening. With fall upon us and recent rain falls in the area mushrooms are popping up everywhere! I’m sure many of you have encountered a mushroom of some kind and thought to yourself, “Can I eat it?” Well this workshop will help you develop skills and learn the correct tools to help answer this burning question. GMCG Americorps volunteer and mushroom enthusiast Stephanie Doyle will go over a few mushroom basics and discuss the rules of mycophagy. Not sure what mycophagy is?? Come find out at the presentation!

Also presenting on the evening of October 4th will be the founders of the New Hampshire Mushroom

Amanita muscaria

Company based in Tamworth. Eric, Dennis and Keith are also myco-lovers and are still in the early stages of setting up a mushroom cultivation facility and operation. These guys will also be there to talk about their new company and of course will come with examples of wild edibles. So whether you want to develop skills so you can collect mushrooms on your own or just want to enjoy an educational night out, come to the Lyceum on Thursday October 4th for this fun and informative presentation. And remember, although collecting wild edibles can be a gastrointestinal treat, it can also be dangerous if you are not informed. Correctly identifying species is a must if you are collecting for the table. “There are old mycologists and there are bold mycologists, but there are no old, bold mycologists”.
