to lead GMCG mushroom walk

Join Green Mountain Conservation Group (GMCG) and ecosystem management consultant/mycology professor Dr. Rick Van De Poll on Sunday October 7th at 10am for a fun filled morning dedicated to hunting for mushrooms. The Group will meet at the GMCG office (Huntress House) located at 196 Huntress Bridge Rd in Effingham before carpooling to Wilkinson Swamp Road in search of fabulous fungi. Learn some basics of mycology including general morphology, how to recognize a poisonous mushrooms and where to look for fungi. The group will collect mushrooms over the course of the day and just before the walk is over Rick with will discuss species found.
Dr. Rick Van de Poll is the principal of Ecosystem Management Consultants (EMC) of Sandwich, New Hampshire, which has conducted natural resource inventories for the public and private sector of New England since 1985. Dr. Van de Poll has completed biological inventories on more than 200,000 acres of land, and has observed and recorded over 1300 mushrooms in New Hampshire. He has taught Mycology at Antioch University New England for many years, and currently teaches Mycology as an adjunct faculty at Plymouth State University. Rick co-founded the Monadnock Mushroom Club based in Keene, NH in 1988, and founded the local Sandwich Area Mushroom (SAM) Club in 2001.
This walk will meet at GMCG at 10am and run until about 1pm. Participants will be outside most of the day so please dress for the weather. This event is free and open to the public. For more information contact GMCG at 539-1859 or
