Tributary water quality volunteer monitor

RIVERS volunteer (May-Oct. yearly): Green Mountain Conservation Group (GMCG) offers a summer biweekly tributary sampling program in the Saco/Ossipee watershed.  The Regional Interstate Volunteers for the Ecosystems and Rivers of Saco (RIVERS) Water Quality Monitoring Program connects volunteers from New Hampshire and Maine to their local rivers and streams. For 20 years, volunteers have contributed to ongoing research projects and have helped GMCG track the health of local aquatic ecosystems.

The program has constant need for monitors –whether they want to sample every other week or fill in as a substitute on an ad-hoc basis.  Training on the collection protocol will be provided by our Water Quality Coordinator and/or AmeriCorps members before volunteers head out into the field.

This program requires reliable transportation to/from sampling locations and may require volunteers to navigate rocky and/or steep terrain.  Sampling takes about 20 minutes per site, and must be completed before 9am in order for the data to be accepted.  If interested please contact Jill at water@gmcg.org.
